- 10-Year R&D Road-map 2022-2032
Aim/Goal:
- To be recognized center in Malaysia for sustainability mobility solutions.
- To promote multi-disciplinary and
integrated mobility related research leading to the advancement of knowledge
and development of products and services.
- To be a leading one-stop training centre for
cross-disciplinary research, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- To form strategic links and collaboration with
local and international universities, and industries for human resource
development and for consultancy work.
- To inculcate a culture of innovation and
creativity in the renewable energy related sector for vehicular application.
- To provide R&D facilities to sustain the
faculty, the university community and the related industry well into the
future, encompassing intelligent vehicle, renewable energy source for vehicle
power system, fuel efficiency study, assistive robotics and manufacturing
system, advance product designs, vibration control, etc toward industry
revolution 4.0.
Research focus area:
Energy research for mobilityThe main research area
for energy research is on the development of the high-performance energy
storage system using super-capacitor, Li-ion battery and metal-air battery and
other sustainable energy source from biomass and bio-fuels and energy. Besides,
increasing energy efficiency through chemical kinetics and combustion modelling
of the internal combustion engine will be one of the focus before electric
vehicle and fuel cell technology fully mature. On the other hand, thermal
management of energy storage system and power electronic is also one of the
focus of the CSMT to increase the life expectancy of the energy storage system
and electronic device in the electric vehicle.

research area focuses on utilizing novel computer aided design technique such
as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, ergonomic study and
3D scanning technology to fabricate good quality product. Besides, this core
area also focuses on the noise and vibration analysis and non-destructive
testing with minimum resources such as energy and time towards industry
revolution 4.0 and sustainable community.

Advanced manufacturing and circular economyThe main research area
for smart manufacturing is to identify opportunities for automating operations
and use data analytics to improve manufacturing performance which working
toward industry revolution 4.0. This is included 3D printing, automation hardware,
software, data communications in manufacturing environments, materials joining,
collaborative robotics and additive manufacturing. Besides, the other focus of
the research area is on the circular economy with aimed at eliminating waste
and the continual use of resources. Circular systems employ reuse, sharing,
repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing and recycling to create a closed system,
minimizing the use of resource input and the creation of waste, pollution and
emissions. Which include developing renewable material for eco-friendly fire
resistant and thermal insulation coating materials, life cycle analysis and 3D
printing of the ceramic materials.

Economy Dr. Yew Ming Chian (PIC)Dr. Yew Ming KunDr. Ting Chen Hunt
Mobility and TransportationThe main research area for transportation is on the urban traffic
system analysis to predict congestion states of a specific urban transport
network and propose improvements and development of new traffic network through
modelling and control. Besides, traffic signal design and impact assessment are
also part of the focus area in the transportation analysis to reduce traffic congestion
and traveling time in the highly populated city.
